Thrifted Ever After Starts Here

Weddings are often seen as once-in-a-lifetime moments—but that doesn’t mean everything has to be brand new. For our Thrifted Ever After contest, we asked couples to share how they’re incorporating thrifted wedding ideas into their big day. What we received were stories full of intention, creativity, and a shared belief that meaningful doesn’t have to mean expensive.

From vintage dresses to secondhand wedding decor, these couples are redefining what a modern, sustainable wedding can look like.

First Place: David & Morgan’s Cottagecore Thrifted Wedding Vision

Some love stories begin with a spark.

David and Morgan’s began in 2020—right in the middle of a global pause.

And from the very beginning, thrifting was part of it.

“From our very first dates including coffee & thrifting, to furnishing & decorating our first Chicago apartment with secondhand decor, our wedding will be no different.”

For David, thrifting was already a way of life. For Morgan, it aligned with her work as an environmental professional focused on eco-conscious consumption. Together, it became something more—a shared value that now shapes their thrifted wedding.

With a vision rooted in cottagecore wedding style, their fall celebration will embrace the beauty of eclectic, secondhand wedding decor—each piece telling its own story while reflecting theirs.

“Our goal is for the entirety of the decorations to be second-hand… and Goodwill has been a major part of making that happen.”

From their first dates to their future together, David and Morgan are building something intentional—and proving that a sustainable wedding can be both personal and beautifully curated.

Runner Up: Bo Sun & Jingyou’s Vintage Wedding Style

Bo Sun and Jingyou’s story spans continents.

Originally from hometowns thousands of miles apart in China, they both came to the U.S. for school and met in Minnesota in 2017. Since then, they’ve built a life together— eventually making their way to Chicago, where they’re now preparing for their wedding.

Along the way, thrifting became part of their routine—and a source of budget-friendly wedding ideas.

“We love thrifting at Goodwill—not only because it’s affordable, but also because you can find unique vintage pieces with designs and quality that often surpass what’s available today.”

Their approach highlights how vintage wedding style can feel elevated, unique, and meaningful.

“Recently, I found an amazing suit at Goodwill, and I think it might be the perfect one to wear for our wedding.”

It’s a reminder that some of the best thrifted wedding finds aren’t planned—they’re discovered.

Runner Up: Paige’s Fully Thrifted Wedding Aesthetic

Paige keeps it real—and we love her for it.

“We met on the apps which is not that cute—but our wedding WILL BE…”

Her vision is bold, intentional, and rooted in secondhand wedding decor and vintage fashion.

  • A 1970s vintage wedding dress
  • An antique veil from the 1920s
  • Months spent thrifting candlesticks, vases, and decor
  • Even save-the-date envelopes sourced secondhand
“Our wedding would be nothing without other people’s stuff.”

Her approach perfectly captures what a thrifted wedding can be—layered, meaningful, and completely one-of-a-kind.

Why Thrifted Weddings Are Trending

These couples show that thrifted wedding ideas are more than just a trend—they’re a shift in how people think about celebrating.

Choosing secondhand wedding decor and vintage fashion means:

  • Creating a more sustainable wedding
  • Finding unique, one-of-a-kind pieces
  • Building a celebration that feels personal—not mass-produced

Whether you’re planning a full thrifted wedding or just incorporating a few vintage touches, the result is something that feels intentional and unforgettable.
