United For Good Program Provides Resources to New Career

As a single mother of three, Eva Henley has always been driven to provide for her family while following her passion for education and helping others. Her journey hasn’t been easy, but with her determination—and the support of the United For Good program—Eva has found a pathway to independence, stability and a career that aligns with her dreams. 

Finding the Right Opportunity 

For Eva, the barriers to pursuing a new career path seemed insurmountable at first. Financial challenges, the need for flexibility and access to the right training made her goals feel out of reach. When she discovered United For Good, everything changed. 

“United For Good is a very good place to start, especially for people who are facing financial barriers,” Eva shares. “They give you so many good resources and a lot of help.” 

The program, a partnership between Goodwill and the United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County, addresses workforce challenges by providing paid job skills training, goal setting and one-on-one coaching. With their support, Eva earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license, a critical step toward her career ambitions. 

A Blend of Health and Education 

While Eva’s ultimate goal is to become a teacher, she sees her current role in healthcare as deeply connected to her passion for education. “Health and teaching come together as one because you’re taking care of somebody and teaching at the same time,” she explains. 

Today, Eva works as a child health care assistant at a middle school, supporting students with autism. “It’s all different levels, but the impact is the same. I’m able to help kids and adults alike,” she says. 

Stability and Independence Through Work 

The United For Good program has not only provided Eva with career opportunities but also the financial stability and independence she longed for. “This program improved my life by giving me the certificate I needed,” Eva reflects. “Knowing I can go anywhere with it is empowering.” 

With her CNA certification under her belt, Eva is focused on building a secure future for her family while contributing to her community in meaningful ways. 

A Vision for the Future 

Eva’s dream doesn’t stop here. She plans to further her education and one day open her own childcare center. “I want to create a place where children feel supported, safe and prepared for their futures,” she shares. Her blend of healthcare and teaching experience is already laying the foundation for that vision.
