Making a Difference Through Medical Assistant Training: Kaylee’s story
How Goodwill’s Impact Program Helped Kaylee Build a Rewarding Career in Healthcare
Kaylee Oquendo always knew she wanted to make a difference, especially in the lives of kids. Thanks to Goodwill’s Impact Program, she found her dream role as a medical assistant at Children’s Wisconsin—and it’s been a game-changer! This program gave Kaylee the tools, training and confidence to build a rewarding career in healthcare.
From Daycare to Healthcare
Kaylee started out working in daycare but soon realized she wanted to take her passion for helping kids even further. That’s when she found the Impact Program, which opened the door to the healthcare field. With training in trauma-informed care, emotional de-escalation and compassion, Kaylee was ready to step up and make an impact on a whole new level. “When you work with kids, you’re really working with two patients—the parent and the child,” she says. It’s a dual focus that Kaylee loves.
Confidence, Compassion and Medical Assistant Career Goals
For Kaylee, the Impact Program was more than just training. It was a way to build confidence and tackle challenges with compassion. “Without this training, I wouldn’t be as skilled in problem-solving as I am today,” she shares. It’s clear the program set her up for success, giving her skills that go way beyond the job description.
The Next Chapter
Kaylee isn’t stopping here! With nearly two years under her belt, she’s now diving into respiratory therapy to expand her skills even further. Her advice for anyone thinking about following a similar path? “Just go for it—even if you’re nervous. The more experience you gain, the more confident you’ll be.”
Kaylee’s journey with Goodwill shows the power of a little support and a lot of heart. With the right training and a big dream, she’s making waves in healthcare and inspiring others to do the same.
