Connecting people to jobs at our Workforce Connection Centers: Karen's story
Karen Graham is passionate about people and brings her love for helping others into her role as manager of the largest and most utilized Goodwill Workforce Connection Center on Milwaukee’s northwest side in Wisconsin.
“My hope is to leave this world better. As much as I can pour into other people – it’s just what I do.”
Workforce Connection Centers offer free in-person and virtual employment services, including workshops,
skills training, and resume, job search and application assistance.
Karen is a beacon of hope for many in their employment journey, connecting countless people to opportunities and resources to be successful in the workforce. “My mission is to be a light in the darkness for people. Treat people with respect and dignity. Let them know they can do it. Help them know what they possess and bring out what’s within.”
For all who use the center’s services, Karen has one goal, “I want people to succeed, and I want to help people
understand that success is measured in small steps. One step at a time is a lot to celebrate.”
At the center, Karen and her team will be there for every step of the journey creating a safe space and sense of community. “We’ll hold your hand, or we’ll walk right by you. We won’t let you go.” Her dedication to going the extra mile to encourage, mentor, and model the way for others to achieve their goals creates a ripple effect.
“It’s seeing people’s growth. It’s not just growth for that individual. It can also be growth for the entire family.”
Through her work, Karen builds a network of support where people can lean on one another beyond the center.
“My goal is to impact the whole village. To make enough lasting positive change so there are supports there when
I am not.”
Karen not only lifts people she serves but takes pride in elevating her team through growth and development, helping them build skills and advocating for their career advancement. “I enjoy being a role model and paving a path. If I can do this, they can do this.”
Beyond the center, Karen is active in her community volunteering for more than 20 years. She is a support system to parents teaching life skills and providing mentorship to young people through faith-based dance instruction. She also dedicates her time with Goodwill partner organizations such as Lead2Change to help equip young people with tools to be successful in college, their careers and the community.
