Ronnie gained skills and confidence through our Workforce Connection Center as he worked towards his goal of obtaining employment.

After being incarcerated for 20 years, Ronnie was ready to change his life. In early 2023, shortly after his release, he hit the ground running, focused and determined to make better decisions to achieve the goals he had set for himself.

Ronnie was referred to the Englewood Workforce Connection Center in Illinois where he enrolled in their Professional Employment Skills Training program. During the week-long program learned basic computer skills, attended workshops to enhance his soft skills like listening and communications, created a resume and practiced interview etiquette. The program reinvigorated Ronnie, giving him a new perspective about the possibilities for his future.

Following the program, Ronnie worked with Employment Services Representative Miguel to create an individual employment plan that was instrumental in him becoming gainfully employed. With the help of Goodwill, Ronnie was able to secure full-time employment as an upholsterer.

Beyond maintaining his employment, Ronnie has also taken the steps needed to obtain his driver’s license and is working towards his long-term goal of purchasing and owning his own home and vehicle.

Ronnie shared, “Goodwill has changed my life for the better. I am grateful for the services and opportunities I have received, thank you!"
