Styling Pantone's "Cloud Dancer"

Thrift the Trend with Goodwill Finds
I'm one who is always reaching for the brightest and boldest pieces to include in my wardrobe. When Pantone announced “Cloud Dancer” as the color of the year my initial reaction was "great...white..." because let's be honest...it seems so...simple, right?
However, after I dug a little deeper and read the rationale behind the choice, my background as an artist and stylist allowed me to better understand the logic behind choosing such a seemingly basic color. This caused me to look inward and ask myself: “What would it FEEL like to dress in a softer, more subdued color palette? Would I like it?”
Sensing a definite need for more calm and ease in my day-to-day life (as I'm sure we ALL could use), I decided to give this muted color palette a try by heading to Goodwill, my favorite place to test out my fashion ideas.
Here's a few easy tips to style Pantone’s Color of the Year using thrifted pieces (and the best part, none of these outfits cost over $25):
Play with Coordinating Colors
Look to Pantone’s coordinating colors like "Pink Lemonade," "Shifting Sand" and "Lemon Icing” to give life to your outfit.
I must admit, these new colorways not only looked good, but they felt good from the inside out. Clothing my body with such light and toned-down colors invoked a sense of calmness over me.

Create Dimension
Layer a variety of textures by mixing up fabrics and patterns. I used the same “Cloud Dancer” toned tunic and button-up with varying bases like denim, patterned pants, breezy cargos and flowy linens – all giving an effortlessly chic and stylish look.
Add closet staples like vests, jackets and cardigans to elevate your base look.
And, look for both a neutral suede loafer or heel for a laid-back vibe and something with interest like a pointed flat with a strap detail or something with a print.

Accessorize
Make it “Cloud Dancer” but your version with belts, patterned scarves, jewelry and shoes that reflect your personality and incorporate pops of color. I added statement earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Create more visual interest and texture through mixing in metallics (gold and silver) through jewelry and shoes.
