This month's blog post features tips from @tayst.ofchicago, one of Goodwill's 2025 influencer partners. Taylor is a Chicago-based fashionista who loves to put together creative looks!

Have you ever let a cute fashion statement piece sit in your closet for too long without wearing it? You don’t have to lie or feel bad about it. I have too. I pass this cute pencil skirt every time I go to choose an outfit. Why? Because I don’t think I have anything that matches it, or better yet, accentuates how cute it is. So, it continues to sit.

Sometimes, I make excuses like, “I don’t have anywhere to wear it.” But the truth is, you never need a reason to get dolled up. So last week, when my good girlfriend invited me to happy hour at this new restaurant, I immediately knew what I wanted to style: my Hanifa skirt. I wasn’t going to let anything stop me. I went on a quick trip to Goodwill, the Orland Park location to be exact, on the hunt for a chartreuse shirt to match. I was going for a monochromatic look.

Because the skirt was so form-fitting, I decided I wanted a looser fitting top. They had a few good options, but I ultimately landed on a satin camisole. Now, the color was more mint than lime, but that was fine for me. I knew I had all the right accessories to pull the look together. So, I committed to the camisole, went to the cashier, and to my surprise, I had enough Perks Plus rewards points to get the top for free. That’s what I call a win! I’d like to think I was being rewarded for my efforts.

I immediately went back home to try on the pieces together. And, you know, there’s no better feeling than an outfit that looks exactly as you imagined it. That is absolutely what happened here. I’m so happy with the result that I just might do this with every cute piece in my closet that has not seen the light of day. Because you don’t always need a new outfit, but you might just need to find the missing piece at your local Goodwill.
