Head Start Substitute Teacher - Milwaukee, WI

Substitute Early Childhood Teacher
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7am -5:30pm (6-8 hour shifts)
Location: Milwaukee (North)

Do you love working with young children and creating a positive place for them to learn and grow? We’re looking for caring, dependable Substitute Early Childhood Teachers to provide classroom support in a welcoming early learning environment.

As a substitute head start teacher, you’ll step in where needed to keep children engaged, supported, and safe while helping maintain consistent classroom routines. Full-time, consistent hours are available.

What You’ll Do

• Provide classroom coverage and follow established lesson plans and routines
• Lead fun, hands-on, play-based learning activities
• Support children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development
• Create a safe, nurturing, and positive classroom environment
• Use positive guidance and age-appropriate classroom management strategies
• Communicate professionally with families, teachers, and staff
• Complete required observations, documentation, and developmental screenings as assigned
• Follow Wisconsin licensing requirements, safety procedures, supervision policies, and established curriculum standards

• Infant/Toddler CDA or equivalent
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of child development and early childhood education practices
• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally and participate in activities that may require bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor
• Ability to report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with state law

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
• Previous childcare or early learning experience
• Wisconsin teaching certification or willingness to obtain
• Familiarity with Wisconsin DCF licensing standards and YoungStar
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
