Goodwill workforce development program connects youth to CNA classes

When Litzi joined the Empower Youth program, she felt lost. She was financially insecure, struggling to navigate unemployment and had limited work experience. But she had determination and goals.

Supported by the mentorship and guidance of her case manager, Litzi built confidence while sharpening communication, time management, problem-solving and interview skills. Litzi’s case managers worked closely with her to understand her needs, then provided connections to resources to help her overcome her challenges.

Knowing Litzi wanted to work in healthcare, Empower Youth connected Litzi to the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, who funded her CNA certification classes.

Litzi has achieved both her CNA and CPR certifications. She also prepared for her new career through job success training, which sharpened her interpersonal skills and helped her get ready to achieve workplace success.

Litzi is now a full-time patient care technician with a Chicago-area medical center. She is on her way to growing her career in healthcare, becoming self-sufficient and gaining financial stability.

Empowered by a new set of goals, Litzi is determined to advance her healthcare education and Goodwill will be right by her side, guiding and connecting her to resources for continued success.

"Before getting help from the Goodwill program, I felt lost with no help in my journey. I learned that there are always ways to improve in life even if there's obstacles in the way. The program provided me with options that will help me further my education – giving me the motivation I needed to believe in myself and to be capable of being successful."
